The Global Water Initiative (GWI) was an action-research and advocacy programme that ran from 2008-17. The project is now closed. This site is no longer being updated, but allows access to GWI outputs until 1 October 2020 when it will also close. After that date, information about the project and core GWI technical publications will continue to be available from the IIED website and Publications Library.
Example of a contract for the co-financing of a well in Sokoura, Mali
This is a practical example of a co-funding agreement in Mali. GWI partner CARE International and the Malian commune of Sokoura jointly funded a large well in Mankanou village. The contract relies on collaboration and the mutual objective of providing water to vulnerable and marginalised groups. Working with local stakeholders, we set out our shared vision for a secure water supply. The commune of Sokoura agreed to contribute 180,000FCFA to this project, with CARE International funding the balance of 8,000,000FCFA.
